About Us

Our History

The facility, built-in 1860, did not nearly resemble the colonial-style funeral home that it is today. Originally built as an apartment building, it at one time housed several families and the Gardner Fire Department’s horses. It presently is a local landmark that has served thousands of families throughout the funeral home’s 74-year history. The Boucher family has been serving the Greater Gardner area for almost 40-years but is the third family to operate the funeral home.

In 1947, A. Robert Bourgeois founded the Bourgeois Funeral Home, converting the aging apartment building and horse stable into a funeral home. Following his retirement in 1955, the business and property were sold to George G. Dufault. The Dufault Funeral Home served primarily the French Catholic population of Gardner for approximately 30 years.

In 1982, George Dufault sold the business and property to Normand L. Boucher, and it became the Dufault-Boucher Funeral Home, Inc. After the sale, Normand began to operate the funeral home to serve families of various ethnic and religious customs.

In 2000, the funeral home became Boucher Funeral Home, Inc. In 2012, Normand sold the business and property to his son Andrew N. Boucher. Andrew prides himself in following in his father’s footsteps to continue to serve its families with the care and professionalism that each family deserves. Our motto remains the same, “Treating Every Family as Our Own.”

Licensed funeral directors are Normand L. Boucher, his son, Andrew N. Boucher—who has been active in the business since 1991, and Normand’s grandson and Andrew’s nephew Jacob B. Cormier—who has been active in the business since 2018. In addition to Normand, Andrew, and Jacob, the staff also includes Normand’s wife, Priscilla T. Boucher, and several other family members. It indeed is a family business.

The firm is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, and the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce. In 2000, Boucher Funeral Home, Inc. received the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award.
