Winonah B. "Winnie", "Noni" (Balch) Wood, 92, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, formerly of 386 Front Street, Winchendon, died peacefully, Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
Winonah was born in Lunenburg, VT on January 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Bernice O. (Young) Balch.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, and later was employed as a caretaker for Hillside Rest Home of Winchendon for several years, retiring in 1987.
Winonah was a member of Redemption Rock Church of Westminster, and a member of the former Potters House of Winchendon.
Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the organ, harmonica and accordion.
Winonah was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Ivan C. Wood, who died April 26, 2002.
She leaves four sons, Ivan G. "Skip" Wood and his wife June of Winchendon, Larry S. Wood and his wife Becky of Winchendon, Roger K. Wood and his significant other, Cathy Byrnes of Winchendon and Nathan P. Wood and his wife Kelly of Winchendon; one daughter-in-law, Linda Wood of Winchendon; eighteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Lynn K. Wood; brother, Gardner H. Balch; sister, Augusta Robinson; grandson, Darren Wood and great-grandson, Justin Bosworth.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon.
