William M. "Bill" Michalewicz, 83, of 46 Wickman Drive, Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, December 4, 2014 in his residence surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on February 21, 1931, he was the son of the late Roman and Katharine (Turkelwicz) Michalewicz. William was raised in Gardner and educated in the Gardner Public School System.
He was employed by the City of Gardner Housing Authority in maintenance for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He was previously employed by Nichols and Stone Company of Gardner.
William was a member of St. Joseph's Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner and the Gardner Polish American Veterans.
He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and cribbage. He loved tinkering with various broken items and was known to many as "Mr. Fix It". William most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Estelle M. (Bernard) Michalewicz, of Gardner; one son, Gary W. Michalewicz and his wife Pauline of Winchendon; three daughters, Donna M. Rahaim and her husband Gary of Gardner, Diane C. Dube of Athol and Jane L. Michalewicz of Gardner; one sister, Stephanie Janski of Gardner; one brother-in-law, John Boris; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Stanley, Arthur, Frank and Steve Michalewicz and by two sisters, Mary Pipes and Stacy Boris.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 15th with a Mass at 11:30 in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
