William P"Bill" Lavoie

October 12, 1946 — December 18, 2008

William P. "Bill" Lavoie, 62, of 348 Pine St., Gardner, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 18th in Gardner.

Born in Gardner on October 12, 1946, he was the son of Maxime and Alida (Melanson) Lavoie.

Bill was a social work manager employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Welfare Department of Greenfield for 40 years, until retiring in 2004.

He was a 1965 graduate of Cornwall University, Ontario and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1971.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and its League of the Sacred Heart Society. He was a former board member of the Gardner CAC for several years. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and the Celtics Basketball Team. Bill was an avid fisherman. Every Saturday for the last 20 years, Bill could be found fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir.

He leaves a brother, Herve Lavoie and his wife Sally Keene of Kennebunk, ME; a sister, Sister Claudette A. Lavoie of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Chicopee; two nieces. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Leonie Dupuis who died in 1996 and 3 brothers who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, December 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
