William J. "John" Gilbert, 87, of 19 City Hall Avenue, Gardner, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a brief illness.
William was born in Winchendon on November 19, 1927, the son of the late William L. and Irene (Raymond) Gilbert.
He graduated from Murdock High School of Winchendon with the Class of 1945.
William was a United States WWII Navy Veteran.
He enjoyed making model airplanes, and he loved golf. He was a volunteer at the Ted Williams Museum in Ocala, FL.
William was an Accountant employed by New England Wooden Ware of Gardner for 20 years, retiring in 1991.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Girard) Gilbert and by his second wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Gould) (Pearson) Gilbert.
William leaves two sons, Christopher J. Gilbert of Girdwood, AK, and Kenneth Gilbert and his wife Virginia Barker of Harvard; one sister, Dorothy Plouffe; two half-brothers, Arthur "Buddy" Gilbert and Raymond Earle; one half-sister, Sharlene Ford; three grandchildren, Evan Gilbert, Amanda Gilbert and Dr. Kelly Barker; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Connors who died July 22, 2003.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Reverend Frederick Fraini III of St. Annas Parish in Leominster will officiate.
A calling hour will be held Friday, February 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
