Wilfred "Willy" A. Godin, 81, of 22394 Minnetonka Rd., Apple Valley, CA and formerly of Gardner until moving to California in 1978, died Thursday, July 15th in his residence following an illness.
Born in Fitchburg on January 26, 1923, he was the son of Albert and Eva (Mercier) Godin.
He was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed by the former Gardner State Hospital for 23 years until retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Desert Church, Apple Valley and served as Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner and was a past choir member. He was a life member of D.A.V. of Fitchburg and was also a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
Mr. Godin was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Marie Florence (Cormier) Godin of Apple Valley, CA; 6 sons, Philip A. Godin of E. Templeton, Michael J. Godin of Phillipston, David W. Godin of Hubbardston, Steven R. Godin and Alan G. Godin both of Apple Valley, CA and Gary A. Godin of W. Roxbury; 1 daughter, Jeanne L. Lirette of Phillipston; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, July 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
