Walter J. Collette, 85, of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in his residence surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.
He was born in Gardner on November 14, 1931, the son of the late Fred J. and Anita M. (Jaillet) Collette.
Walter was a printer employed by Simplex Time Recorder of Gardner for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was also a clerk for over forty years at Beauregard Package Store of Gardner.
He was a United States Korean War Army Veteran and received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) (Germany).
Walter was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was also a member and Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post 905 Ovila Case of Gardner, member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner and the Acadien Club of Gardner.
Walter enjoyed spending time in Maine and Canada. He was an avid pool and card player, and was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. A lover of ice cream, he was a frequent patron of Kimball Farm in Jaffrey, NH.
Walter will be remembered for his easy-going personality, dry witty sense of humor, as well as his unique and contagious laugh.
Walter was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Doris M. (Cormier) Collette who died March 19, 2013.
He leaves two sons, Alan V. Collette and his wife Barbara Aucoin of Westminster and John W. Collette and his partner Martin Gottlieb of Morro Bay, CA; two daughters, Jacqueline T. Collette of Amherst and Ann Marie Collette and her husband Michael Diamond of Amherst; two grandchildren, Emily Collette and Joshua Collette and his wife Kirby; one great-grandchild, Hadley Collette; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Stanley J. Collette.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 19th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 12:00 p.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Monday, December 19th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
