Viola A. (Poirier) "Mem-Vi" Stropparo, 79, of 23 George Street, Leominster, died peacefully Saturday, May 31st in HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster surrounded by her family.
Born in Gardner on July 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Marguerite (LeBlanc) Poirier.
Viola was a waitress for several years at various locations, such as The Westminster Country Club and The Old Mill both of Westminster, and The Oyster Bar of Fitchburg. She was previously a secretary employed by the former Heywood Wakefield Co. of Gardner.
Viola was a 1946 graduate of Gardner High School, Gardner.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner and St. Bernard's Church, Fitchburg.
Viola enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and being a waitress. She loved seafood, was the life of the party and was an excellent jokester. Viola was an avid sports fan. She most enjoyed and loved her grandchildren.
She leaves two daughters, Joan M. Mavilia of Groton and Karen Stropparo and her husband Walter Fiore of Leominster; one sister, Lucina Poirier of Gardner; five grandchildren, Anthony Mavilia, Mario and Marco Vitone all of Groton, Sofia and Alberto Fiore of Leominster; her former son-in-law Anthony Vitone of N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, Antoine Poirier; one sister, Doris Camden; her former husband, Alfred R. Stropparo; and by her son-in-law Anthony P. Mavilia, Jr..
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner, at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, June 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
