Vincent E."Vinny" Valliere

February 22, 1917 — June 7, 2009

Vincent E. "Vinny" Valliere, 92, of Centerville, MA, formerly a resident for 44 years of 104 Main Street, Otter River, MA, died Sunday, June 7th in the Cape Regency Rehabilitation Center, Centerville, following a brief illness.

Born in Athol, MA on February 22, 1917, he was the son of the late Eugene J. and Mary (Quinn) Valliere.

Prior to retiring in 1979, Vinny was a carpenter employed by the Local Carpenters Union #48 of Fitchburg, MA.

Vinny graduated from Templeton High School, Templeton with the Class of 1936. During his high school years, he was a member and captain of the baseball team, who won the State Championship in 1936. He was also a member and captain of the football team, which was undefeated in 1936. Vinny was an outstanding athlete and received 13 Varsity Letters in high school.

He was a WWII United States Army Veteran, serving from 1941 through 1945, and received the Distinguished Unit Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.

Vinny was a member of St. Martin's Church, Templeton, where he was a Lector and was on the Renovation Committee. He was a Life Member of the American Legion, Roger P. Warfield, Post 373 of Baldwinville, MA. He was a member of the Templeton Housing Authority Committee and the Baldwinville Nursing Home Building Committee.

Vinny enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching Lawrence Welk on television. He enjoyed ballroom dancing at Lake Whalom and Lake Dennison. Vinny was also an avid fan of the Boston Celtics.

Vincent leaves his wife of 64 years, Yolanda S. (Petracone) Valliere of Centerville, MA; one son, Eugene P. Valliere of Centerville, MA; one daughter, Suzette M. Knower and her husband Donald of Gardner; five grandchildren, Scott Kendall, Brandon and Brian Knower, and Matthew and Danielle Valliere; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Charles, Edward, Earl, Richard, Leonard Valliere.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Martin's Church, 247 State Road, Templeton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.

A calling hour in the funeral home will be Thursday, June 11th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Narragansett Regional High School Scholarship Fund in memory of Vincent E. Valliere, 464 Baldwinville Road, Baldwinville, MA 01436.
