Victor J. "Red" Pelletier, 88, of 200 Nichols Street, Gardner, died peacefully Monday, December 15th, in his residence where he has lived his entire life, following a long full life.
Born in Otter River, MA on May 7, 1920, he was the son of the late Phillipe and Regina (Fredette) Pelletier.
Victor was employed by Simplex Time Recorder of Gardner as an expeditor for 20 years, retiring in 1983. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield Co. of Gardner.
Victor was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, where he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and received the Top Hat Award for exemplary service. He was also a member of the League of Sacred Heart and was a Eucharistic Minister.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 747 of Gardner, and a member of the Gardner Chapter of A.A.R.P.
During the 1940's and 1950's, he trained professional boxers, including Tigin Gallant. Victor umpired Little League baseball games for many years, coordinated the Simplex Bowling League for many years, and in 1983 he founded the Senior Bowling League. He played semi-pro football for the Gardner Merchants. Victor enjoyed woodworking and attending craft fairs. He painted houses with James Ruckey. He was part of the Share program, and later in life took up golf just for fun.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Mary J. (Dwelly) Pelletier of Gardner; one son, Raymond J. Pelletier and his wife Barbara Berfelz of Gardner; one daughter, Jeannine M. Damotetter and her husband Paul of Gardner; two sisters, Therese Chiapulis of North Brookfield and Maria Butler of Gardner; four grandchildren, Kristina, Johanna, Anthony and Nicole; one great-grandson, Kyle; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. Raymond Pelletier, MS and Rene N. Pelletier; and by two sisters, Lauretta Couillard and Estelle Pelletier.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 22nd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, December 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
