Theresa M. (Desroches) Newton, 76, of Athol and formerly of Gardner, died suddenly Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, surrounded by her family.
Theresa was born in Gardner on May 4, 1934, the daughter of the late Bruno and Priscilla (Bernard) Desroches.
She attended Gardner High School, Gardner and later received her GED.
Theresa was a member of St. Mary's Church in Orange.
She spent her life as a homemaker and took pride in caring for her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Theresa was an extremely talented seamstress. She made all her children's clothes, wedding gowns, Simplex Time Recorder's band uniforms and several high school flags throughout New England.
Theresa leaves her husband of 57 years, Merl D. Newton of Athol; two sons, Robert W. Newton and his wife Kathy of Hubbardston and Michael F. Newton and his wife Catherine of Toney, AL; three daughters, Deborah A. Wood of Athol, Barbara J. Ares and her husband Richard of Gardner and Susan M. Cringan and her husband Paul of Gardner; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, Henry Desroches.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 21st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, February 20th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
