Tauno H. Aalto, 76, of 9 Brigham St., Hubbardston, died peacefully Sunday, June 24th in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, following a short illness.
Born in Norwood on November 25, 1930, he was the son of Hjalmar and Hilma (Ylonen) Aalto.
He was a machinist employed by Reed, Thread & Die Co. of Holden for 30 years until retiring in 1997.
Tauno was a 1948 graduate of Worcester Trade School.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner. Tauno was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching his favorite television programs, especially The Price Is Right.
Tauno was a Korean War U.S. Navy veteran.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Joan E. (Dora) Aalto of Hubbardston; 2 sons, Peter H. Aalto and his wife Margaret "Peggy" of Hubbardston, Steven T. Aalto and his wife Louise of Gardner; 4 daughters, Kathy S. Bogaard and her husband, Hugo, Sandra J. Sisco and her husband Thomas, all of Hubbardston, Laurie A. Drouin and her husband Thomas of Winchendon, Karen E. Lesneski and her husband David of Gardner; 1 sister, Toini Karpinen of Hope Valley, RI; 17 grandchildren, Meredith and Rebecca Aalto, Nicholas, Katrina and Kirsti Bogaard, Sara, Hanna, Corey and Chelsea Drouin, Matthew and Stacie Lesneski, Luke, Sam, Benjamin and Kelly Sisco, Alise and Jill Aalto; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Penny Aalto who died in 1955, a brother, Tarmo Aalto, a sister, Taimi Suojanen, and a grandson, Erik Aalto.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Dr. Rev. Gary Heikkila will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, June 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
