Sylvio G. "Siv" Jean, 86, of Gardner, died Sunday, August 16, 2015 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner, following a 16 year courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Gardner on June 26, 1929, the son of the late Victor and Delina (Houde) Jean.
Sylvio owned and operated The Bowlaway of Gardner from 1971 thru 1988. He was previously employed by Selig Manufacturing Company, Inc. of Leominster as a cost accountant from 1956 thru 1971.
He graduated from St. Joseph High School Seminary in Bucksport, Maine. He received his Associates Degree in Business in 1958 from Worcester Jr. College of Worcester.
Sylvio was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Occupation Medal.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Sylvio was an avid fly-fisherman who also enjoyed golfing, bowling, tennis and traveling. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun. He played baseball for years, and was the pitcher for the former Fighting Frenchmen team. Sylvio most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner and the Polish American Citizens Club of Gardner, and past member of the V.F.W. Post 905, Ovila Case of Gardner.
Sylvio leaves his wife of 65 years, Delia A. (Collette) Jean of Gardner; one son, Raymond R. Jean of North Grafton; three daughters, Ann Marie Carrier and her husband Lawrence of Gardner, Catherine E. Manca and her husband John of Baldwinville and Suzanne M. Gustafson and her partner Gary Beaudreau of Pascoag, RI; one sister, Agnes Caron of Winchendon; four sister-in-laws, Beatrice Jean of Orange, Grace Jean of Gardner, Theresa Jean of Gardner and Rita Jean of Gardner; four grandchildren, Angela Raymond, Gregory Carrier, Kurt Gustafson and Joanna Gustafson; three step-grandchildren, John E. Manca, Rebecca Mexico and Peter Manca; seven step-great-grandchildren, Christian Manca, Sebastian Mexico, Payton Manca, Watson Mexico, Mia Manca, Myla Mexico and Jamison Manca; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Leopold, Henry, Normand and Roland Jean; and by one sister, Rita Garneau.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, August 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
