Sylvia H. (Roy) Dube, 79, of 42 A Street, Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a brief illness.
She was born in Fitchburg on November 22, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Regina (Masse) Roy.
Sylvia graduated from St. Bernard's High School, Fitchburg with the Class of 1952. She earned her Home Health Aide Certificate through Catholic Social Services in 1969. Sylvia was a private duty home health aide for several years, and later for Catholic Social Services of Worcester for six years, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. She was also a member and past President of the American Legion, Post 129 of Gardner Women's Auxiliary.
Sylvia enjoyed reading, painting, sketching and jazz music. She loved going to the beach, especially Wells, Maine during the summer. Sylvia's greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving, wonderful mother who will be missed dearly by her six children.
She leaves four sons, David H. Dube of Gardner, Michael R. Dube of Marietta, GA, Thomas E. Dube and his wife Heather of Winchendon and Christopher R. Dube and his wife Jessica of Winchendon; one daughter, Denise G. Woodward and her husband Scott of Templeton; one sister, Gloria Boudreau of Fitchburg; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Dube of FL; her former husband, Leo Dube of Templeton; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, John H. Dube, who died in 2008; her companion of many years, Ed Porn, who died in 1998; eight brothers, George, Romeo, Robert, Leon, Alphonse, Norman, Donald and Maurice Roy; and one sister, Pauline Wirtanen.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 8th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
