Steven J. "Spanky Spankerson" Rigney, 69, of Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following a long illness.
He was born in Worcester on April 30, 1947, the son of the late Harold and Ruth (Spring) Rigney.
Steven was a machine operator employed by H & R 1871, Inc. of Gardner for several years, retiring in 2007.
He loved all New England sports teams, enjoyed jogging and ran the Boston Marathon at the age of 50. He enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun, Hampton Beach and Old Orchard Beach. Steven was an animal lover, who also loved music and reading. He participated in the Gardner Relay for Life, worked at the Pathway House and was involved with local AA programs. He will be greatly missed by many friends.
He leaves his wife, Pamela S. (Killam) (Clark) Rigney of Gardner; one daughter, Rachael Rigney; one brother, Kevin Rigney of Worcester; two sisters, Charlene Thurlow of Worcester and Jean Wordell of Winchendon; two grandchildren, Erica and Matthew Turner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Harold "Pudgy" Rigney.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 14th at 2:30 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14th from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
