Stephen F. Allard, 57, of 152 Chelsea Street, Gardner died peacefully Saturday, February 9th in his residence surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Gardner, on September 1, 1950, he was the son of the late Clifford and Amy (Hawke) Allard.
Stephen worked in the Massachusetts Department of Correction for 23 years, retiring in 2003, as Superintendent of the Concord Minimum Security Correctional Facility in Concord, MA. He was Chief Administrative Assistant in the Massachusetts State House for State Representative Raymond LaFontaine, from 1969 thru 1987.
Mr. Allard graduated from Gardner High School class of 1968. He attended Fitchburg State College in the 1970's and also attended Suffolk Law School in Boston.
Stephen was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was also a member of the Napoleon Club in Gardner.
Stephen enjoyed attending sporting events, especially those of which his grandchildren participated in. He was an avid sports fan of local teams, and the Washington Redskins. Stephen also enjoyed reading. He especially loved time spent walking and playing with his "best buddies" (his two dogs) Blackie and Halfback.
He leaves one son, Robert F. Allard and his wife Jessica of Winchendon; one daughter, Christine S. Bourgeois of Hubbardston; two brothers, Brian N. Allard of Gardner and Charles Couture of Templeton; six grandchildren, Dominic and Alexia Allard, Amber and Autumn Brown all of Winchendon, and Kirsten and Justin Bourgeois of Hubbardston; his former wife, Nancy (LaRoche) Bourque of Gardner, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 13th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will take place in the spring in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours are Tuesday, February 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
