Stella M. (Daigle) Dion, 78, of 324 West St., Gardner, died Friday, April 8th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a short illness.
Born in Gardner on January 14, 1927, she was the daughter of Emile and Lillian (Gallant) Daigle.
She was a secretary-bookkeeper employed by the City of Gardner in the Superintendent of Schools Office for 30 years until retiring in 1992.
She was a 1944 graduate of Gardner High School.
Mrs. Dion was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and worked at its yearly bazaars. She was a member of the Mother Rivier Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
She was a member of Elder Hostels, Silver Sneakers, Gardner Library Book Club and was active in the Gardner Museum. She was a founder and Queen Mother of the Chair City Bells Red Hat Society. She enjoyed golfing, skiing and did extensive traveling. She was a volunteer at the House of Peace and Education, Inc.
Her husband of 28 years, Harold R. Dion, died in 1976.
She leaves 4 sons, Gary A. Dion of Gardner, Wayne E. Dion and wife Donna of South Ashburnham, Ronald H. Dion of Winchendon and David J. Dion of Westminster; 1 daughter, Marie L. Knowlton and husband Paul of Richmond, NH; 2 brothers, Edgar Daigle of Otter River and Patrick Daigle of Winchendon; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 17 nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Alvin Daigle and John Daigle.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 12th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday, April 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
