Simon J. Bourgeois, Jr., 79, of 50 Sunrise Lane, Gardner died Thursday, July 21, 2011 in his residence following a long illness.
Simon was born in Bangor, Maine on January 7, 1932, the son of the late Simon J. and Gertrude (Savoie) Bourgeois, Sr.
He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor by the Templeton Developmental Center, Baldwinville for 28 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked part time at the Gardner landfill for many years.
Simon attended Gardner High School, Gardner. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Gardner. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, the Gardner Fish and Gun Club, the Napoleon Club, the Deep Sea Club, the Trout Club, the Rabbit Club, the Beagle Club, the Deer Club and an original member of Club 25, all of Gardner. Simon was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner.
Simon was a United States Korean War Army Veteran, and received the Parachute Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Simon also enjoyed playing pitch.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Jeanne C. (Dion) Bourgeois of Gardner; two sons, James E. Bourgeois and his wife Tina of TN and John M. Bourgeois and his wife Donna of Athol; one daughter, Kathleen A. Duteau and her husband Ernie of Daytona, FL; two brothers, Gerald Bourgeois and his wife Louise of Gardner and Ronald Bourgeois and his wife Janie of Worcester; three sisters, Betty Bourgeois of Maynard, Louise Letendre of Templeton and Jean Bourgeois of RI; a daughter-in-law, Gina Beauregard of Gardner; seven grandchildren, Corey Bushey, Chrissy Adams, Bobbi-Jo Bourgeois, Katelyn Bourgeois, Samantha Bourgeois, Andre Beauregard and Christina Beauregard; six great-grandchildren, Mylee Castiglia, Robert John, Vanessa Adams, Emily Adams, Jacob Bushey and Cheyenne Toomey-Marvin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Bourgeois, who died in 2003.
Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
