Sebastiano A"Ben" Spano

July 13, 1922 — December 12, 2009

Sebastiano A. "Ben" Spano, 87, of 1199 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, and formerly of 125 Connors St., Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, December 12th in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, Leominster, following a long illness.
Born in Fitchburg on July 13, 1922, he was the son of Carlo and Jo-Anna (Accardo) Spano.
He was a Business Manager employed by Webber Lumber Co. of Fitchburg and Leominster for 18 years until retiring in 1986.
Ben was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner.
He was an avid gardener who was very proud of his gardening skills. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, entertaining friends and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. Ben was very active in the Hubbardston Golden Agers and participated in many of their events.
His wife of 54 years, Dorothy L. (Grenon) Spano, died in 2008.
He leaves 4 daughters, Christiane M. Alario and her husband Anthony of Fitchburg, Joanna M. Luksha of North Yarmouth, ME, Carla N. Simpson and her husband John of New Braintree, MA, Lisa B. Guertin and her husband Raymond of Hubbardston; 1 brother, Joseph Spano of Baldwinville ; 1 sister, Nina DiNatali of Gardner; 9 grandchildren, April Burke, Tracy Knight, Janna and Ben Luksha, Jonathan Balle, Anthony and Zachary Lambert, Christopher Woodin and Bradley Guertin; 3 greatgrandchildren, Elizabeth and Sean Burke, Seamus Knight; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Spano who died at the age of 16 and 2 sisters, Mary Cali and Mamie Quatrale.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Wednesday, December 16th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
