Ruth E. "Ruthie" (Merchant) Walker, 81, of 405 Queen Lake Road, Phillipston, died peacefully Monday, April 25, 2011 in Legend Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner, following a brief illness.
Ruth was born in Winchendon, MA on May 27, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Healey) Merchant.
Prior to retiring in 1998, she was employed by Heywood Hospital, Gardner as a Dietary Aid for several years. She was previously a Teacher's Aid in the Gardner Public School System. Ruth was also the caregiver of her husband Bill for several years prior to his death in 2007.
She graduated from Winchendon High School, Winchendon with the Class of 1947.
Ruth enjoyed playing cards, watching the game show "Wheel of Fortune" on television and was a passionate Boston Red Sox Fan.
She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Walker, who died in 2007.
Ruth leaves two sons, Barry S. Walker of Phillipston and David L. Walker and his wife Trisha of Gardner; two daughters, Nancy A. Gelinas and her husband Robert of Winter Haven, FL and Diane L. Walker of Phillipston; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew and several cousins. She was predeceased by one son, William J. Walker who died in 2004, and one brother, Donald Merchant and one sister, Gloria Houde.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Lower Cemetery, Phillipston.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Saturday, April 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
