Ronald E. Richard, 73, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, April 11, 2016 in his daughter's residence in New Salem, MA.
Born in Gardner on January 3, 1943, he was the son of the late Roger and Alodie (Vautour) Richard.
Ronald graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1960. He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner in 1992.
Ronald was employed by Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner as a Campus Police Officer for 10 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a United States Vietnam War Veteran and received the Marksman Rifle Badge and Expert Carbine Badge.
Ronald was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner.
Ronald's greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching, playing and coaching all sports; and he especially loved watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Ronald was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Diane M. (Therrien) Richard, who died March 4, 2008.
He leaves two daughters, Angela R. Fournier and her husband Thomas of New Salem and Paula I. Richard of Gardner; one brother, Eugene Richard and his wife Dale of Gardner; two sisters, Elaine Smith and her significant other Michael Salem of Gardner and Lucille Jaillet and her significant other Ed Erskine of Londonderry, NH; three grandchildren, G. Gilman Keith VI of Gardner, Allen T. Fournier and Victoria I. Fournier both of New Salem; one aunt, Anna Richard of Baldwinville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 16th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald E. Richard Memorial Fund to benefit his three grandchildren, George Gilman Keith VI, Allen T. Fournier and Victoria I. Fournier, c/o Athol Savings Bank, 444 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
