Romeo J. DeGrace, Sr., 85, of 15608 Corte Castle Place, Chesterfield, VA and formerly of 88 Racette Ave., Gardner, died Saturday, December 27th in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA, following an illness.
Born in St. Louis, NB, Canada on November 24, 1918, he was the son of Edmond and Celeste (Richard) DeGrace.
He co-owned and operated the Telephone Answering Bureau of Gardner with his wife for 24 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner and enjoyed gardening.
Mr. DeGrace was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
His wife of 53 years, Lorraine I. (Labossiere) Degrace, died in 1993.
He leaves a son, R. Joseph DeGrace of San Antonio, TX; 2 daughters, Karen Luanne DeGrace of Granby, CT and Sandra Doherty of Chesterfield, VA; 1 brother, Alonzo DeGrace of Gardner; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Lorenzo DeGrace of Gardner and 3 sisters, Alma Gariepy of Arizona, Lodia Downing and Sr. Aldea DeGrace, both of Canada.
A Memorial Mass in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner, will be held at a later date and will be followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
