Roland L. Levesque, 98, of 220 Peabody Street, Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in his residence following a long illness.
Born in St. Alphonse, Quebec, Canada on June 30, 1915, he was the son of the late Henri and Aurroe (Simore) Levesque.
Roland was employed by Simplex Time Recorder of Gardner as a machinist for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was also a taxidermist for many years.
Roland was a United States WWII Army Veteran, and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
Roland enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. He most enjoyed time spent with his family.
He leaves one brother, Walter Levesque of Chicago, IL; one sister, Rachel Levesque of Millbury; one nephew, Fernand Snay and his wife Patricia of Barton, VT; four great-nephews, James Snay and his wife Rachel, who were his caregivers and best friends for the past 4 years, Jeffrey Snay, Mark Snay and Brian Snay and his wife Irene; two great-nieces, Lisa Manalouis and Amy Atoka; and several cousins. He also leaves his companion of 46 years, Harriet Zukowski of Templeton; her daughter, Dianne Cosentino and husband Tony and their sons, Christopher and Patrick. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alzear and Rosaire Levesque and by three sisters, Claudette Balthazar, Florence Levesque and Theresa Snay.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 31st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
