Roland W. Jean, 87, who resided at 28 A Street, Gardner since 1967, died Thursday, October 2, 2014, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on September 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Victor J. and Delina M. (Houde) Jean.
Roland was educated at St. Joseph High School Seminary in Bucksport, Maine, followed by studying with the Oblate Fathers of Mary Immaculate at Oblate College and Seminary in Bar Harbor, Maine.
He was a United States Korean War Army Veteran. Roland received the Army Occupational Medal, and he served as a French interpreter in 1952.
He was an automobile parts salesman, employed by Millbury Ford of Millbury for 20 years, retiring in 2000. He was previously employed by Harr Motors, Fredette Motors, Fitchburg Ford and Florence Stove Company.
Roland was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and its' League of the Sacred Heart.
He enjoyed working in his yard, was an avid skier and was a sports fanatic.
Roland was a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner and the Napoleon Club of Gardner.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Rita M. (Desmarais) Jean of Gardner; two daughters, Kathleen M. Arsenault and her husband Gilles of Gardner and Karen J. Chandler and her husband Robert of Quechee, Vermont; one brother, Sylvio Jean and his wife Delia of Gardner; one sister, Agnes L. Caron and her husband Maurice of Winchendon; three sisters-in-law, Grace Jean of Gardner, Beatrice Jean of Athol and Theresa Jean of Gardner; five grandchildren, David Arsenault and his wife Tiffany and Jeremy Arsenault and his wife Danielle, Nicole Arsenault, Connor Chandler and Brent Chandler; six great-grandchildren, Trinity, Savanna , Haleigh and Kirstyn Arsenault and Nevaeh and Nyomi Soto. He was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Leopold and Normand Jean; and by one sister, Rita Garneau.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Sunday, October 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
