Roland A. Dahir, 77, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner and formerly of 19 City Hall Avenue, Gardner, died Sunday, September 26th in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on October 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Jamilia (Risha) Dahir.
Prior to retiring in 1985, he was head of Security for Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard for several years. He was previously a reporter for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Beacon newspaper of Leominster.
Roland was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran, and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Roland graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1950.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner. He was a member of the former Lebanese Club in Gardner. Roland enjoyed watching sports on television.
Roland leaves two sons, Jeffrey Dahir of Vermont and Matthew Dahir of Westminster; one daughter, Patricia A. Sabulis and her husband Joseph of Gardner; one sister, Antoinette M. "Toni" Dahir of Gardner; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 30th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllan Street, Winchendon, MA.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, September 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
