Roger A. Leger

Roger A. Leger, 86, of 172 Sherman Street, Gardner died suddenly, Friday, July 6, 2012 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
Born in Gardner on March 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Gerard and Elise (Goguen) Leger.
Prior to retiring in 1991, he was employed by Mead Container of Gardner as a dye man. He was formerly employed by New England Woodenware of Gardner.
Roger was a United States WWII Marine Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gardner.
Roger enjoyed traveling to Ogunquit, Maine and Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a photographer for Wironen Studios of Gardner and also did photography as a hobby. He enjoyed woodworking, especially scale models, which have been on display at the Gardner Museum. Roger also enjoyed fishing and attending Fitness Concepts Health Club. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Roger walked to McDonald's six days a week to meet friends for coffee, and they would then travel together to the Mall at Whitney Field in Leominster.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Shirley K. (Boudreau) Leger, who died December 28, 2009.
He leaves one son, Ronald G. Leger and his wife Diana of Gardner; one daughter, Elaine M. Shannon-Brewer and her husband Allan of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Roland "Bobby" Leger of Toms River, NJ; two grandchildren, Jessica Shannon and Chad LeBlanc; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Lydia LeBlanc; two uncles, Edward and Gerard Goguen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Roger was predeceased by one brother, Louis Leger who died in 1989 and by one granddaughter, Juliet Shannon who died earlier this year.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 12th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
