Roger P. Goguen, 77, of Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2022, in UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, after a valiant battle of failing health with his wife and son at his side.
Born in Gardner on August 6, 1945, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Anita (LeBlanc) Goguen. Roger was United States Navy Vietnam War Veteran serving from 1962 to 1966, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a Truck Driver employed by UPS for 30-years prior to his retirement. In retirement, Roger drove truck for Goguen Transportation.
Roger was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Franklin County Boat Club, the Ashburnham Modular Railroad Club, and Teamsters Local 170. Roger enjoyed motorcycles, sports cars, trucks, and observing aviation. He loved to work on model railroads, traveling with his wife, and going boating on any water. Roger's greatest joy was being on his boat. In their almost 40-years together, Roger and Suzette owned eight boats—all appropriately named "The Budget Buster" docking from Turners Falls to Gloucester, MA, and the last 16 years in Warwick, Rhode Island; on his boat, that was Roger's happy place.
Roger is survived by his wife of 35-years, Suzette M. (Boudreau) Goguen of Gardner; a son, Retired USCG Chief Michael J. Goguen of Phillipston; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Marissa Rice and a son in law Larry Rice, all of Wellington, FL; a brother, Raymond Goguen and his wife Barbara of Harwich Port; sister-in-law, Nannette Voisine of Gardner; a brother-in-law, Larry Boudreau and his wife Michelle of Ashburnham; his little buddy, Bradley Wypych; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Lu Sea, who brought smiles to his face.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly A. Goguen- Rice.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Worden and staff at Mercy Family Practice for the loving and compassionate care they provided Roger.
