Robert F. "Bob" Ryan, 69,of 219 Pine Street, Gardner, died Saturday, August 29th in UMass Memorial Medical, 55 Lake Ave North, Worcester, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle of medical complications.
Born in Lowell, MA on June 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Thomas Harry Ryan and Elizabeth R. (Lawson) Ryan.
Prior to retiring in 1995, Bob was employed by Verizon of Templeton as a cableman/lineman for 37 years. After retiring, Bob was a school bus driver employed by Fred's School Bus Co. in Winchendon for 14 years.
Bob graduated from Marlboro High School, Marlboro with the Class of 1958. In 1960, he graduated from Worcester Trade School, Worcester where he studied oil burner service and air conditioning.
Bob was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Beagle Club of Gardner, the Telephone Pioneer Association of America, the Gardner Fish and Gun Club and the Marlboro Fish and Gun Club. Bob was a retired member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, serving in the Yankee Division of Worcester from 1962 thru 1968.
He enjoyed playing darts, horseshoes and skeet shooting. He was an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Bob loved vacationing in Maine, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob leaves his wife of 43 years, Ruth A. (Collins) Ryan of Gardner; one son, Ernest W. Murphy of Michigan; four daughters, Ruth A. Waldron of Montana, Phebe J. Francoeur of Worcester, Elizabeth R. Jolicoeur and her husband Richard of Holden and Bobby-Jo M. Broeckel and her husband Steven of Baldwinville; two brothers, Thomas H. Ryan and his wife Lynn of Berlin and Jack P. Ryan and his wife Cathy of Marlboro; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Ryan of Marlboro; eleven grandchildren, Zachary, Seth and Emilie Ryan all of whom lived with their grandparents, Bob and Ruth in Gardner, Autumn and Brooke Broeckel of Baldwinville, Heather Murphy of Georgia, Timothy Burgess of Gardner, Alicia Evans of Worcester, Danielle Chapman of Worcester, Mark and Matthew Waldron of Arizona; and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, James L. Ryan.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 3rd at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Pastor David Cote will officiate.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, September 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
