Robert E. "Bob" Meattey, 60, of 16 Willow Street, Gardner died peacefully Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner with his children by his side, following a brief illness.
Born in Leominster on July 3, 1952, he was the son of the late Treffle E. and Joan Lee (Harris) Meattey.
Robert was employed by Community Resource Center for Justice in Unity, NH as a Behavioral Manager, prior to becoming disabled in 2009. He was formerly a mechanic for several various companies, a construction worker for Daniel D'Onfrio & Sons Company of Leominster and Alpha Gerry Company of Leominster.
Robert graduated from the former Leominster Trade School in 1970. He also attended Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in Fitchburg.
He was a United States Vietnam War Army Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Hand Grenade Medal and the Sharpshooter M16 Medal.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Robert was also a member of the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center in Gardner.
Robert enjoyed working on cars, computers and watching the History and Military channel on television. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves one son, Bryan T. Meattey and his significant other, Danielle Fagnant of Gardner; one daughter, Heather J. Meattey of Gardner; four step-daughters, Shelley Bates and her husband Steve of Ashburnham, Becky Bigeau and her husband Nicholas of Leominster, Stephanie Jones and her husband Gareth of Leominster and Meghan Raux of Ashby; four brothers, Thomas Meattey and his wife Linda of Florida, Stephen Meattey and his wife Lauren of Leominster, Michael Meattey of Worcester and Raymond Meattey and his wife Rita of Endicott, NY; one sister, Brenda Ducharme and her husband Robert of St. Matthews, SC; six grandchildren, Jillian, Kayla, Jacob, Cody, Aiden and Nicholas; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, February 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Road, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
