Robert G. "Bob" Leahy, 62, of 27 Hillandale Road, Ashburnham, died peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2014, in his residence surrounded by family.
Born in Boston on September 4, 1952, he was the son of the late John S. and Claire T. (Couture) Leahy.
Robert graduated from Austin Preparatory School of Reading, MA with the Class of 1970. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Fitchburg State University in 1975, and in 1976 received his Medical Technology Degree from Fitchburg State University. Robert later earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 1989.
He was an electrical engineer employed by Valeo Radar Systems of Hudson, NH for the past 4 years, retiring recently due to illness. He was previously employed by Sanders Associates of Nashua, NH.
He spent his life actively involved in his children's athletic and extracurricular activities, from coaching and volunteering in youth programs to following their athletic careers through high school and college. He rarely missed a game or a chance to support their events. Robert loved hiking, swimming and being outdoors. He was an avid reader from childhood, and shared his love of literature with his children and his grandson. Robert's greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth M. "Lisa" (Gonyeo) Leahy of Ashburnham; one son, Brian P. Leahy and his wife Julia K. of Melrose; two daughters, Caitlin R. Harrington and her husband David F. of Fitchburg and Maura A. Leahy of Ashburnham; four brothers, Michael J. Leahy and his wife Sandy of Raynham, Daniel J. Leahy and his wife Susan of Leominster, Dr. Kevin E. Leahy and his wife Melinda of Monterey, CA and David J. Leahy and his wife Maribeth of Melrose; four sisters, Maureen C. Callan and her husband Dennis of Middleton, Nancy J. Leahy of Portland, ME, Judy M. Koller-Leahy and her husband Willy of Gais, Switzerland and Anne M. Leahy of Saco, ME; one grandson, John David "Jack" Harrington of Fitchburg; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 1st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Saturday, November 1st from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
