Robert C. "Poop" Laprade, 74, of 322 Pine Street, Gardner died Saturday, January 21, 2012 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
He was born in Gardner on May 4, 1937, the son of the late Leo and Elmire (Laroche) Laprade.
Robert was employed by Digital Manufacturing Company, Westminster as a work-coordinator for 23 years, retiring in 1999. He was previously employed by the City of Gardner Cemetery Department for 15 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a life member of the Napoleon Club in Gardner, a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, a member of the Metronome Club of Gardner and a member of the P.A.C.C. of Gardner.
Robert was a United States Korean War Marine Corps Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He enjoyed traveling and cruises. Destinations he had visited include North Port, Florida, York Beach, Maine, Aruba and Hawaii. He was an avid fan and season ticket holder of the New England Patriots, and enjoyed golfing. He had a passion for cooking, and years ago was chosen as the featured cook in the "Cook of the Month" series of The Gardner News. Television shows he most enjoyed were the Travel, History and Food Channels. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Robert leaves his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline M. (Robichaud) Laprade of Gardner; two sons, Dean R. Laprade and his wife Joanna of Westminster and David R. Laprade of Gardner; two daughters, Donna E. Young and her husband Barry of Gardner and Debra A. Laprade and her partner, Kathleen E. Lawler of Fitchburg; four sisters, Annette Lopez and her husband Phil of Lutz, FL, Lucille Daly and her husband Paul of Raleigh, NC, Jane Bibeau of Sumters, SC and Ann-Marie O'Shea and her husband Fran of Munson, MA; two sisters-in-law, Dee Laprade of Poughkeepsie, NY and Doris Laprade of Gardner; one brother-in-law, Michael Mahoney of Groton , CT; four grandchildren, Chelsea Young, Kylie Young, Joseph Robert Laprade and Julia Laprade; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo Laprade and James Laprade and by two sisters, Elaine Mahoney and Rachel Laprade.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 27th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
