Robert R. "Bob" Lajoie, 80, of 35 Halford St. and Largo, FL, died peacefully Tuesday, April 6th in Largo Medical Center, Largo, FL following an illness.

Born in Gardner on May 31, 1929, he was the son of Onesiphore and Ida (Laprade) Lajoie.

Bob was an oil burner technician employed by the former Gardner Coal & Oil Co. of Gardner for 33 years. He last worked as a maintenance supervisor for Modern Contract Co. of Gardner for several years.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and as a youngster was a bell ringer at church. He had a fervent devotion to Blessed Mary as well as a strong faith in his religion.

Bob had a radiant smile and took much pride and satisfaction in portraying Santa Claus for most of his family and many friends. He will always be fondly remembered as "Santa Claus". He loved to whistle which exemplified his happy attitude toward life and loved spending time with his family. He particularly enjoyed watching the sunrise. With his wife, he spent much time at Hampton Beach, NH and was described as a beachcomber. He enjoyed walking, working around the house and playing the organ. Bob played football with the Hillside Gymnasts and he also coached Little League. He enjoyed watching television, especially Archie Bunker in All In The Family, Two and a Half Men, and the Boston Red Sox.

Bob was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal (1st award) and the National Defense Service Medal.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Patricia A. (Mullins) Lajoie of Gardner and Largo, FL; 3 sons, Peter R. Lajoie, Timothy B. Lajoie and his wife Cynthia, all of Gardner, Kenneth E. Lajoie and his wife Barbara of Sterling; 2 daughters, Tricia A. Richard and her husband Jean of Gardner, Jacqueline M. Rouisse and her husband David of Westminster; 1 brother, Ernest Lajoie of Gardner; 10 grandchildren; 3 greatgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Leo, Edward and Normand Lajoie and 3 sisters, Alice Davis, Agnes Savoie and Lena Michalewicz.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 23rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in New Cemetery, Ashburnham.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, April 22nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
