Robert C. Johnson, 77, of 36 Mayfield Rd., Gardner, died Wednesday, March 31st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Cambridge on June 20, 1926, he was the son of Charles R. and Fannie (Compton) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson worked at Sunbeam on Newbury St., Boston where he met his loving wife, Lois D. (Daly) Johnson, with whom he spent 44 years before she passed away in October, 2002. He was an assembler last employed by Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner from 1961 until retiring in 1988.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Holy Spirit Church. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed collecting model trains.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
Mr. Johnson leaves 4 sons, R. Charles Johnson of Ashburnham, Alan D. Johnson and Paul C. Johnson both of Gardner and Navy Lt. James Johnson of Newport, RI; 2 daughters, Mary F. Hulette of Gardner and Patricia (Tisha) Haley of Hubbardston; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Brian, David, Daniel, Jacob, Benjamin, Alexander, Gabrielle, Andrew, Matthew and Lauren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Edward Johnson of Modesto, CA, Richard Johnson of Columbus, GA, Charles Johnson of Cambridge and 1 sister, Dorothy Gale of South Yarmouth.
Funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
Following cremation, burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
