Robert A. "Giro" Girouard, 52, of 151 Vernon Street, Gardner died unexpectedly Saturday, July 7th in Gardner.
He was born in Gardner on May 31, 1955, the son of Paul M. Girouard and Marguerite E. (Ashe) Girouard, and lived here all of his life.
At the time of his death, "Giro" was a Technician employed by Comcast for the past ten years, and recently received the "Tech of the Year" award for outstanding performance. He was formerly a Salesman, employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.
"Giro" was a 1974 graduate of Gardner High School. He attended Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner.
"Giro" was a member of the Acadien Social Club, Gardner and the Polish American Citizens Club, Gardner. He was a member of the Gardner Elks Lodge #1426, where he was an honorary member and several- time recipient of the "Elk of the Year" award. He was also the Director of the annual "Elks Hoop Shoot" contest for area youth.
"Giro" had many interests and was involved in many different sports, including golf, bowling and karate (Go-Ju-Kai). His passion was hockey. He was a member of the Acadien Rec Hockey League, the Gardner Old Timers Hockey League and was a former Gardner Youth Hockey coach for several years. "Giro" was particularly proud of his motorcycle. He will be fondly remembered bartending at the V.F.W. in Westminster and the former LaGrassa's in Gardner, where he enjoyed watching his favorite T.V. show "Jeopardy". "Giro" will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his mother, Marguerite E. (Ashe) Girouard of Citra, Fl.; two brothers, Paul E. (T-Paul) Girouard and his wife Ellen of Bel-Air, MD and David M. Girouard and his wife Elizabeth of Silver Springs, Fl; two sisters, Tina M. Larson and her husband Everett of Douglas, MA and Melissa A. Bolton of Alpharetta, GA; two uncles, Walter Girouard and his wife Marlene of NH and Robert Ashe and his wife Carol of Silver Springs, FL; five nieces, five nephews, several cousins and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Paul M. Girouard who died in 1978.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the Polish American Citizens Club, 171 Kendall Pond West, Gardner. Immediately following the service, a reception to honor "Giro's" life will be held in the Club until 4:00 p.m.
Calling hours will be Friday, July 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
