Robert J. "Bob" Gauvin, 79, of 45 Rosewood Drive, Gardner, died peacefully Monday, February 28, 2011 in Life Care Center of Leominster, following a brief illness.
Born in Shediac, N.B. Canada on April 7, 1931, he was the son of William "Willie" and Madelaine (Allain) Gauvin.
Bob was a welder employed by Fitchburg Welding of Westminster for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
He attended Canadian Vocational School in N.B. Canada.
Bob was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, and it's League of the Sacred Heart. He was a former member of the Heritage Village Association.
He was an avid walker and participated in the "Silver Sneakers". He enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle. Bob was a loving Grampy with a wonderful sense of humor, who most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Rita M. (Boudreau) Gauvin, who died May 16, 2003.
He leaves his 100 year old mother, Madelaine (Allain) Gauvin of Shediac, Canada; four sons, Terrence J. Gauvin of Gardner, Daniel J. Gauvin and his wife Antonette of Templeton, David J. Gauvin and his wife Ellen of Baldwinville and Kevin P. Gauvin and his wife Kimberly of Ashburnham; one daughter, Annette M. Korhonen and her husband Peter of Gardner; four brothers, Leonard Gauvin and his wife Irene of Ville Brossard, Quebec, Romeo Gauvin and his wife Liliane of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, Alfred Gauvin and his wife Roberte of Shediac, N.B. Canada and Lorenzo and his wife Daphene of Bayfield, New Foundland, Canada; two sisters, Geneva Hache and her husband Jean-Victor of Valley Field, Quebec, Canada and Fernande Hatton and her husband Donald of Liscomb, Nova Scotia, Canada; seven grandchildren, Jonathan P. Korhonen, Jayson Gauvin, Jesse Gauvin, Kayla Gauvin, Ryan Gauvin, Tanner Gauvin and Hunter Gauvin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one daughter, Baby Charlene M. Gauvin and by one brother, Laurie Gauvin.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 4th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral are Thursday, March 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
