Robert J. Cormier, 79, who resided at 13 Moran Street, Gardner for the past 44 years, died peacefully Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester.
Robert was born in Gardner on February 10, 1932, the son of the late George and Cyrianne (Maillet) Cormier.
He was a machinist employed by GEM Industries of Gardner for 37 years, and later was employed for two years by Maynard Machine & Tool in South Ashburnham, retiring in 1994.
Robert graduated from Saxton Trade School in Leominster in 1965.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was also a former member of the Deep Sea Club in Gardner and the Salmon Club in Gardner.
Robert enjoyed traveling, listening to jazz music, dancing and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. He also enjoyed watching the news and the Wheel of Fortune on television.
He leaves his wife, Ruth E. (Niittymaa) Cormier of Gardner. The couple would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary September 29, 2011.
Robert also leaves two brothers, Emile Cormier of Gardner and his twin brother, Ronald Cormier and his wife Kathleen of Gardner; one sister, Florence Cormier of Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his close friends, Charles and Sylvia LeBlanc of Gardner and his Goddaughter, Renee Leblanc of Gardner. Robert was predeceased by his son, Robert Paul Cormier who died March 19, 1987; and by three siblings, twins Eva Cormier and Charles Cormier, and Ernest Cormier.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 3rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
