Robert J."Bob" Ares

Robert J. "Bob" Ares, 75, of 24 Maple Street, Gardner, died Friday, March 7th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a long illness.

Born in Gardner on February 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Orian J. and Marie Louise (Lajoie) Ares.

Bob was employed as a custodian for the City of Gardner Police Department, Gardner for 12 years, retiring in 1998. He was previously employed for 16 years as a foreman for Conant & Ball Manufacturing Co., Gardner.

Mr. Ares was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Bob was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.

Bob enjoyed woodworking and watching Western shows on television. He most enjoyed time spent with his family.

Bob leaves his wife of 51 years, Mary C. (Augusto) Ares of Gardner; two sons, Kevin M. Ares and his fiancée Phyllis Collette of Templeton and Kurt M. Ares and his wife Danielle of Royalston; two daughters, Katherine M. DeStadio and her husband Joseph of Winchendon and Karol M. Brown and her husband Gerald of Baldwinville; one brother, Joseph N. Ares and his wife Phyllis of Winchendon; one sister, Priscilla T. Boucher and her husband Normand of Gardner; one sister-in-law, Eleanor A. Ares of Gardner; six grandchildren, Joseph R. and Anthony J. DeStadio, Corrie L. and Sydney K. Ares, Shay and Caroline L. Brown; one aunt, Marion Lajoie of Richmond, VT.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kristine M. Ares who died in 1971, and by a brother, Raymond P. Ares who died in 1984.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, c/o Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
