Rita M. (Gallant) Poirier, 88, of 62 Otter River Road, Gardner, died peacefully in her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 24th .
Born in Gardner on December 14, 1918, she was the daughter of Philip and Mary (Perreault) Gallant.
She was a housekeeper employed at the former Gardner State Hospital for 12 years, retiring in 1976. She was previously employed by Cushing Academy, Ashburnham and the former Robillard's Pharmacy of Gardner.
Mrs. Poirier was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
She was a member of the Retired State County & Municipal Employees' Association. Rita enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, listening to CNN news and especially loved dining out.
Her husband of 67 years, Joseph Edward Poirier, died in 2005.
She leaves 1 daughter. Elaine J. Alisauskas of Gardner; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Cathy, Lisa, Jeffrey and Stanley Alisauskas; 8 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kerren, Joseph, Kila, Allison, Zachary, Mikayla Alisauskas and Merynn Lyman; 1 great-greatgrandchild, Jeffrey Alisauskas; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Lionel, Henry and Raymond Gallant and 4 sisters, Gertrude Noel, Laura Boudreau, Ora Logan and Loda Gallant.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, February 28th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
