Rita C. Couture

Rita C. (Jalbert) Couture, 87, who resided for the past 54 years on Coleman Street in Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, October 18th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.
Born in St. Basile, New Brunswick, Canada on July 31, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Toussaint J. and Rose Marie (Voisine) Jalbert. Rita came to the United States at the age of one, and became a citizen of the United States in 1963.
Rita was a welder employed by Gem Industries of Gardner for ten years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and its Ladies of St. Anne Society.
Rita enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, knitting and crocheting.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Adelard Couture, who died May 24, 1994.
Rita leaves; four daughters, Odette R. Racette and her husband Jerry of Gardner, Dianne C. Roy and her husband Tony Federico of Tampa, FL, Rachel D. Conti and her husband Stuart Nelson of Jacksonville, FL and Susan Y. Blood and her husband Don of Templeton; seven sons, Michael G. Couture and his wife Carol of Gardner, Paul H. Couture and his wife Janice of Templeton, Ernest D. Couture of Baldwinville, Roland J. Couture and his wife Judy of Gardner, Gerald M. Couture and his wife Jill of Leominster, Joseph A. Couture II and his wife Carol of Orange and Daniel A. Couture of Gardner one daughter in law, Patty A. Couture of Gardner; three sisters, Theresa L. LeBlanc of Gardner, Nora H. Mason of Gardner and Claire Y. Perry of Stratford, CT; one sister in law, Jeanne H. Jalbert of Gardner; 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Annette A. Bettey and Dorina L. Clavet; one brother, Donald Y. Jalbert; and one daughter in law, Leonet M. Couture.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 21st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, October 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
