Rita T. (Cormier) Cormier, 84, of 60 West Street, Gardner, died peacefully Friday, September 11, 2015 in her residence surrounded by family.
Born in St. Damien, N.B. Canada on November 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (LeBlanc) Cormier.
Rita was employed for many years at the former Gardner Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Rita enjoyed dancing, clogging and playing Bingo. She was a talented seamstress and quilter whose passion was making blankets and doll clothes. She loved traveling to Canada to visit family and friends, and she treasured spending time with her grandchildren.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Leonard Cormier, who died in 1985.
She leaves one son, Edouard J. Cormier and his wife Linda of North Carolina; five daughters, Lorraine M. Bastarache and her husband Norman of St. Anthony, N.B. Canada, Aline E. Johnson and her husband Albert of Cap-Pele, N.B. Canada, Irma M. Kelley and her husband Bill of Gardner, Huberte M. Rioux and her husband Gary of Gardner and Ann Leger and her husband Mike of Gardner; two brothers, Adelire Cormier and his wife Huberte of N.B. Canada, Gerard Cormier and his wife Marie of N.B. Canada; two sisters, Irene Gauvin of N.B. Canada and Noella LeBlanc and her husband Emery of N.B. Canada; fourteen grandchildren, Rita, Donna, Joanne, Paulette, Monique, Kevin, Shaun, Steven, Danny, Joseph, Rachel, Yvon, Thomas and Maria; twenty great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her five year old son, Yvon Cormier; and by four brothers, Omer, Laurie, Donald and Deus Cormier.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 16th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery of Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Academy, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
