Rita J. Charland

Rita J. (Moison) Charland, 91, of 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, and formerly of 131 Ash Street, Gardner, died peacefully March 19th in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, surrounded by her family.

Born in Fitchburg, MA on January 10, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline (Gingras) Moison.

Rita was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner and a member of its Ladies of St. Anne Society. She was founder and quite active in the annual Parish Bazaar.

Mrs. Charland enjoyed playing bingo, making crafts and watching game shows on television. She loved her family, and spent a lot of time babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Louis A. Charland who died in 2000.

She leaves two sons, Robert R. Charland and his wife Geraldine of Gardner, and Francis L. Charland and his wife Sandra of Marlboro, MA; three daughters, Gloria C. Bourgeois of Gardner, Judith A. Roberts of Zellwood, FL and Priscilla L. Valliere of E. Templeton; 14 grandchildren, Lynne McKellick, Brian Bourgeois, Kenneth Bourgeois, Celeste Burdett, Carla Medeiros, Michael Charland, Jessica Shear, Heather Valliere, Matthew Valliere, Michelle Davidson, Gregg Roberts, Monique Ducharme, Timothy Roberts and Kristen Rich; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Paul Charland of Gardner, who died in 2001; one brother, Raymond Moison; four sisters, Sister Raymond Moison of the Sisters of Joan of Arc, Beatrice Powell, Edna Josie and Theresa Ramdell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 25th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, March 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Holy Rosary Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, both at 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
