Rita M.L. Bourgeois

Rita M.L. "Rugged Rita" (Boucher) Bourgeois, 79, of 19 City Hall Avenue, Gardner died peacefully Sunday, February 22, 2015 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus of Worcester, following a long illness.
She was born in Minto, N.B. Canada on February 27, 1935, and was raised by Arsene and Obeline Hachey.
Rita was the Executive Director of the Community Action Committee of Gardner for 28 years, retiring in 2000.
Rita was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 747 of Gardner, a Social Member of both the Deep Sea Club of Gardner and the Beagle Club of Gardner. In 2000, Rita was named Citizen of the Year by the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoyed camping at Peaceful Pines, playing Bingo, trips to Foxwoods and going out for lunch. She treasured spending time with her friends, children and grandchildren.
Rita leaves two sons, Richard J.N. Bourgeois of Gardner and Gary J. Bourgeois and his wife Sundra of Gardner; one daughter, Linda M. Ladeau of Gardner; three brothers, Leo Boucher of Minto, N.B. Canada, Loris Boucher of Minto, N.B. Canada and Arthur Boucher of Oromocto, N.B. Canada; three sisters, Evelyn Vanin of Minto, N.B. Canada, Janet McGaghey of Nackawic, N.B., Canada and Elda Phair of Grand Rapids Canada; four grandchildren, Tammy Bourgeois-Bellis and her husband Billy, Todd Ladeau, Shawn Bourgeois, Corey Bourgeois and his fiancé Samantha Kaczor; six great-grandchildren, Katlyn Hackett, Andrew Hackett, Austin Hackett, Devin Bellis, Lissa Bellis and Ella Bourgeois; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Bourgeois who died in 1972; three brothers, Joseph Boucher, Gerald Boucher and Laurie Boucher; four sisters, Melida LeBlanc, Jeannine Attle, Lena Poirier and Anita Boucher.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Graveside Services will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gardner CAC, 294 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
