Richard “Dick” C. Rushford, 92, of Hubbardston, died peacefully Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family after an illness.
Born in East Berkshire, Vermont, on February 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Yale C. and Elsie L (Girard) Rushford. Dick was a United States Army Korean War Veteran serving from 1950 to 1953, where he received the Army Occupation Medal. He was a laborer employed by Crocker Technical Papers of Fitchburg for more than 38 years until his retirement in 1990.
Dick was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, practicing at its Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of Ovila Case VFW Post 905 of Gardner, the Gardner Chapter of AARP and the Gardner and Hubbardston Golden Agers. In Dick’s free time, he enjoyed working around his house, making grandfather clocks, traveling and working in his garden. His greatest joy and treasure was his family, treasuring all the memories made throughout the years.
Dick is survived by his three children, Bruce P. Rushford and his wife Patricia of Millbury, Nancy M. Jaillet of Hubbardston, Michael C. Rushford and his wife Joan of Livermore, CA; three grandchildren, Donald Jaillet, Angela Jackson, and Bridget Rushford; a great-grandchild, Andrew King; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Jeannette C. (Schaffer) Rushford, who died in 2024, and his two siblings, Robert K. Rushford and Mary O’Brien.
Calling Hours will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, 268 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Please reference in memory of Richard C. Rushford.
