Rene E. Gagne, 74, of 211 Willis Rd., Gardner, died Monday, May 1st in his residence surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on September 18, 1931, he was the son of Raymond and Yvonne (Racette) Gagne.
He was a paper maker employed by James River Co. of Fitchburg for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was also a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
Rene enjoyed reading, television viewing and cribbage.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 and received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany).
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Leonette T. (Hebert) Gagne; 2 sons, Michael R. Gagne and wife Gizelle, Edmond G. Gagne and wife Theresa; 4 daughters, Michelle C. LaBonte and husband Ronald, Kerry A. Galvin and husband Carlos, Rhonda M. Lison, Kandace A. Smart and husband John, all of Gardner; 1 half-brother Harold H. Crossley and wife Linda of Bakersfield, CA; a half-sister, Patricia Portrie and husband Bruce of Harrington, ME; 20 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 sons, Craig Gagne who died in 2006 and James Gagne who died in 2001.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4th @ 10:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, May 3rd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
