Raymond R. "Ray" St.George, 77, of 10 Lee Street, Lancaster, MA,and formerly of 215 South Road Templeton, where he lived from 1962 to June of 2006, died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 3rd in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, Leominster.
Born in Worcester on August 11, 1928, he was the son of Leonard and Cecelia (Bonnette) St.George.
Ray was an accomplished entrepreneur and business leader. He was president of Butler Limousine from 1982 until 1999. He established Gardner Regional Mart Service and established and operated Gardner Montachusett Transportation. He was president of Gates and Greenwood Insurance Agency in Gardner. He started his career at Connecticut Mutual Insurance Co. As a young teenager he established the Palace Studio of Photography in Jaffrey, N.H.
He was a 1946 graduate of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA, a 1947 graduate of Doursher School of Photography, Vermont, and from Babson Institute he received his Bachelor in Science Degree in 1958 and his Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1959.
Ray was a member of Holy Cross Church in East Templeton, and St. Patricks Church in Jaffrey, N.H.
He served two terms as president of Gardner Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Gardner Rotary Club, past president of the American Heart Association of Worcester County in 1973, past president of Massachusetts School Bus Association of Massachusetts in 1980. Ray was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents, Knights of Columbus 4th degree Bishop Beaven Assembly, and past president of the Parents Teachers Association in Templeton.
Ray loved spending time at his cottage on Lake Monomonack that they owned since 1972. He enjoyed water skiing, boating, reading and photography. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's Little League Baseball games. Ray had a wonderful and outgoing personality.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Jeannette A. (Ouellette) St.George of Lancaster; three daughers, Diane M. Wilder and husband Daniel of Gardner, Holly J. Dorr of Foxborough, and Sheila S. Milioto and husband William of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Christopher D. Wilder, Matthew R. Wilder, Caitlin C. Dorr, Carolyn M. Dorr, Christian W. Milioto, Alicia M. Milioto and Rebecca J. Milioto; one aunt, Margaret DeBello of Shrewsbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7th from the Boucher Funeral Home,Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a mass at 11:00 am at St. Patricks Church, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey, N.H. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, Hillcrest Road, Jaffrey, N.H.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, August 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
