Raymond A. Stewart, 67, of Rutland, died Wednesday, January 28th in his residence surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
Born in Hartford, CT on September 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Doris (Rousseau) (Stewart) Simkewicz, and the stepson of the late Thomas Simkewicz.
Raymond was a truck driver employed by U.P.S. for 32 years, retiring in 1998.
Raymond graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1959. He played football for the Gardner High School Wildcats.
Raymond was a United States Coast Guard Vietnam War Veteran, serving from 1960 through 1966.
He enjoyed reading, canoeing and walking his dog, "Harvey". Raymond loved spending time in Maine. He was a loyal fan and spectator of Gardner High School sports. Raymond loved his family, and enjoyed time spent with them.
Raymond leaves one son, Craig I. Stewart and his wife Dawn of Gardner; three daughters, Lori E. Jameson and her husband Keith of Gardner, Lynn A. Stewart-Hussien and her husband Jeff of Gardner and Lesley J. Stewart of Gardner; one brother, Alan Stewart and his wife Jean of Sevierville, TN; one sister, Gayle Simkewicz of Sedona, AZ; four grandchildren, Justin R. Jameson, Ian S. Stewart, Kyle P. Stewart, Hannah E. Stewart; two aunts, Leona Rousseau and Theresa Chartier; one niece, Kim Buckler and one nephew, Stephen Stewart; and several cousins. He also leaves his friend, Barbara Lavallee and her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 117 Main Street, Westminster. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, at a later date.
