Raymond A. Girard, Sr., 86, of 104 Church Street, Gardner, formerly of Fitchburg, MA and Phoenix, AZ, died Sunday, August 13th, in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Gardner.
Born in Springfield, MA on April 4, 1920, he was the son of Arthur and Eva (Rogers) Girard.
He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1938.
He was a Beater Engineer employed by Weyerhauser Co., formerly Crocker-Burbank and James River Co., of Fitchburg for many years, retiring in 1982.
Raymond was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Fitchburg. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing horseshoes.
He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and received the Victory Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Raymond leaves his wife of 59 years, Almina M. (Boucher) Girard; he also leaves 2 sons, Raymond A. and his wife Cyndi of Northfield and David A. and his wife Sylvia of Westminster; 3 sisters, Dorothy Rivetts of Washington State, Rita Maillet and Nancy Fournier both of Fitchburg; 8 grandchildren, Melissa and Andrew Girard of Bernardston, Nicholas Girard of Westminster, Stuart Girard of Northfield and Wendy Sands of Gardner, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother Arthur Girard and a sister Elsie Hines predeceased him.
Funeral Services will be held of Thursday, August 17th, in Sacred Heart Church, 22 Cottage St., Fitchburg at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster.
