Raymond F. Cormier

Raymond F. Cormier, 84, of 47 Lake St., and formerly of 4 Winslow St., Gardner where he lived for 47 years, died Saturday, January 22nd in Heywood Hospital after a difficult battle with cancer, surrounded by family.
Born in Gardner on November 14, 1926, he was the son of Prosper and Olive (Laliberte) Cormier.
Ray was a salesman last employed by Newcomb Motors of Gardner and Orange from 1984 to 1990. He was a sales consultant employed by St. John's Packaging Co. from 1980 to 1984. He owned and operated Students Shoe Store of Gardner for 34 years until 1979.
Mr. Cormier attended Holy Rosary School and Gardner High School. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
Ray was former 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #396, Gardner Exchange Club, Board of Directors and past president of the Polish Credit Union, V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner, and a charter member of the PACC and Polish American Veterans Club. He enjoyed golfing and was a fan of New England Sports.
Mr. Cormier was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with three engagement stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Josephine S. Dowal of Gardner; a son, Jeffrey V. Cormier and his wife Bonnie of Eastham; a daughter, Christine A. DiPasquale and her husband Bernard of Gardner; a brother, Prosper G. Cormier and his wife Ruth of Parker, CO; a sister, Gloria Trembley of Phoenix, AZ; a brother-in-law, Brother Luke Dowal OSB, Benedictine Monks of Collegeville, MN; a granddaughter, Kate Ashley Cormier of Hadley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, January 29th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery will be at a later date.
There are no calling hours.
