Raymond A. “Pete” Ambrose, 90, of Baldwinville, died peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2019, in his residence.
Born in Gardner on July 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Leo P. and Yvonne B. (Demers) Ambrose. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the IUOE Local 98 – Springfield for 25-years until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church of Baldwinville, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Beaven Assembly and Otter River #2536 Council. Pete was a history buff and loved to watch documentaries on PBS, and the History Channel and collected postcards and watch fobs. He loved the mountains and enjoyed skiing. He was a volunteer at Stratton Mountain, VT, as a ski patrol worker from 1961 to 1965. Pete played semi-pro football for the Gardner Merchants from 1945 to 1947 and was proud to be the youngest person ever to play on the team at age 15. He also played for the Gardner Merchants baseball team from 1952 to 1953 and continued to play as a catcher for several local softball teams. Pete also loved traveling.
He leaves behind one son Joseph L. Ambrose of Jamaica, VT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by one son David R. Ambrose; one brother Roger L. Ambrose; one sister Priscilla Henshaw.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will be held at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
A Calling Hour will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
