Ralph L. Taft, Jr. 76, of 244 East Broadway, Gardner died Tuesday, August 12th surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on May 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Ralph L. and Marjory (Waite) Taft, Sr. Ralph was raised in Templeton by his grandparents, Sedney and Carrie (Aldrich) Waite.
Prior to retiring due to illness, Ralph was a utility man employed by JBM Services of Templeton for 15 years. He was previously an upholsterer employed by Gardner Craftsmen's and Knotts Manufacturing both of Gardner. Ralph was also a bartender at the South Gardner Hotel in Gardner.
Ralph was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Gardner, and the Gardner chapter of AARP. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing, going to dog races and attending his boys softball games with his dog "Louie the Lug".
Ralph was a United States Korean War Army Veteran.
He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Paulette A. (Hebert) Taft who died February 25, 1993.
He leaves two sons, Darren A. Taft and his wife Rebecca A. of Gardner and Scott A. Taft of Gardner; one daughter, Debrah Gravel of Ashburnham; six grandchildren; one aunt, Eva (Waite) Picerno of Scottsdale, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Leonette T. Gagne and June C. Hebert both of Gardner; one cousin, Gordon Jensen of Hubbardston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, August 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
